“All I can really say of my experience of that strange land is… brown. At times, it was as if the sky and the horizon had conspired to switch elemental composition in a cynical joke upon the futility of differentiation. The far-reaching mud becoming a canopy pinned at the horizon beyond perceptive range, stretching overhead as the soily sky had previously done. At the same time, houses and butter became each other, as did skin and cloth. In such times, names and nuance proliferated and the business of categorisation and classification became a major employment provider. In retail situations, choice was abundant”
